Caltrate Advance is a daily supplement that helps strengthen bones and muscles. Each tablet contains a balanced combination of Calcium, Vitamin D₃, and essential minerals to support bone density, prevent calcium deficiency, and maintain skeletal health.
Contents (Per Film-Coated Tablet)
- Vitamin D₃ (Cholecalciferol): 500 IU
- Calcium: 600 mg (as Calcium Carbonate 1.5 g)
- Magnesium: 50 mg (as Magnesium Oxide 82.9 mg)
- Zinc: 7.5 mg (as Zinc Oxide 9.34 mg)
- Manganese: 1.75 mg (as Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate 5.39 mg)
- Copper: 500 µg (as Cupric Sulfate Anhydrous 1.26 mg)
Description
Caltrate Advance provides calcium, the key mineral for bone formation and structural integrity. The formula is enhanced with Vitamin D₃ to aid calcium absorption and supportive minerals (magnesium, zinc, manganese, copper) that contribute to healthy bone metabolism, muscle function, and teeth development.
Indications / Uses
- For the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
- For conditions associated with calcium and/or Vitamin D deficiency.
- To support bone and muscle health in adults, especially among older individuals, postmenopausal women, or those with low dietary calcium intake.
Dosage / Direction for Use
- Adults: Take one tablet twice daily with food and a full glass of water, or as directed by a physician.
- Note: Calcium supplements are best taken with meals to ensure optimal absorption.
- Missed Dose: Take as soon as remembered. If it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one—do not double the dose.
- Hydration: Drink a full glass of water (around 8 oz) with each dose, unless advised otherwise (e.g., patients on dialysis).
- Important: Do not exceed the prescribed amount or frequency.
Overdosage
Symptoms may include constipation, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, alkalosis, hypercalcemia (high calcium in blood), kidney stones, or low blood phosphate levels. If overdose occurs, stop use immediately and seek medical assistance.
Contraindications
- Do not use Caltrate Advance if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any ingredient in the product.
- Do not take if you have severe renal impairment or kidney stones unless prescribed by a physician.
Special Precautions
- Consult your doctor before use if you have kidney disease or a history of kidney stones.
- Consult your doctor if you have digestive issues (e.g., ongoing diarrhea, malabsorption, or low stomach acid).
- If pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your physician before use.
- Avoid taking other calcium or Vitamin D supplements simultaneously to prevent excessive intake.
- For long-term calcium therapy, regular monitoring of blood calcium levels may be required.
Adverse Reactions
- Mild digestive discomfort (constipation, bloating, nausea, abdominal pain).
- Rarely, high calcium levels in blood or urine (hypercalcemia/hypercalciuria).
- Kidney stone formation (nephrolithiasis) with prolonged high-dose use.
If symptoms persist, discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider.
Drug Interactions
- Antibiotics (tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones): Take Caltrate 2 hours before or after these medicines.
- Thyroid medication (levothyroxine): Separate dosing by at least 2 hours.
- High-fiber meals (bran, whole-grain cereals) may reduce calcium absorption.
- Caffeine, alcohol, or smoking may interfere with calcium uptake—limit intake while using this product.
Storage
Store below 30°C, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
